Last night was ‘First Thursdays’ at Art Central, unfortunately, there weren’t as many people as I have seen in the past. It seems however, that most were attending the season launch party at the Theatre Junction GRAND.
It was a great night, probably one of funnest I have had in Calgary. The party was held in the alley where projections and colored lights adorned the brick walls, the dj’s, dancers and crowd were high energy, eclectic and entertaining to watch (I love people watching – it’s one of my favorite past times). I congratulate Mark Lawes and crew from the theatre (I hope they sold lots of season passes – if you haven’t gotten yours, go gett’em, the season looks great!)

The dance-off is about to begin

The dance-off is officially on

Nice ending shot to a very entertaining night!
I have now officially started what I look forward to being the beginning of my fine art/exhibit career in Calgary. Last night I had a small reception at Convergence Cafe; a great little place with a super vibe, terrific food, …, and, a turn table!
The turnout was quaint, intimate, and really enjoyable! My sister was in town for it, friends I had not seen in a long time, new friends; all in all a fun night.
Thanks to those that picked up my camera throughout the evening and got some photos!
A last minute invite from my roommate, and within a couple of hours we were off. The goal of the trip was to view the fireworks from the air, a 4 seater cezna was the vehicle to enable our objective, however, after the paperwork that needs to be done prior to takeoff, the plane checks, …, we didn’t have lift-off until the sun was completely gone. Needless to say, there really aren’t photos, but, the experience was fantastic and loads of fun. Thanks to our gracious pilot Brendan!
For my first entry I have something to share which I am excited about; my first show in Calgary, at Convergence Café, 100, 1011-1st Street SW, Calgary, AB, and the Reception will be on Wednesday, Aug. 26th, 2009 from 8-10pm. The images in the show are tiny glimpses into some of the projects I have worked on in the past few years.

I like to cook, and I don’t typically make the same thing twice, not because I don’t want to, but, I don’t follow recipes, and since I am impulsive, I don’t plan what to cook, I just use what’s around …

vol au vent – store bought puff pastry with chinese broccoli, orange peppers and bechamel sauce.
I was not aware that Calgary is also home to the White Pelican, an endangered species in Alberta. I think of pelicans and I think of tropical places, palm trees, warm waters, a cocktail …, who knew that I could visit those places by simply going to the weir and watch these sprawling birds.

Yes, it is the ‘burbs. But, this particular spot is by the Bow River. I walk out of my home, and within 3 minutes I see the winding river at the bottom of the ridge. It feels like day-tripping away from the city; there’s nature, wide open spaces, (typically) nice people on the paths, and, there’s always a new path on a hill for me to explore. I love doing hills, I love running up hills, detest the way down … I wonder if it’s age.
A few years ago, I would have run down a very steep incline without a second thought, now, I don’t know if it’s the harder fall that scares me, or if my feet quite literally, don’t move as fast as they used to!
On any case, most days I enjoy a hard trek around my hood.

My roommate found this nest in our yard. We were able to get this shot of the eggs (they are chickadee sparrows), and the next day, the eggs were gone.
